Xbox and IKEA launch YXSTABY gaming furniture range with thumbstick stools

IKEA has unveiled a nine-piece official Xbox furniture collection, named YXSTABY, designed to move gaming furniture out of bedrooms and into mainstream living spaces. The range, created jointly by Xbox and IKEA designers, will go on sale in the United Kingdom from October through the retailer's website and physical stores.

The collection includes functional pieces such as controller display boxes, TV stands on castors, a side table for gaming accessories, a laptop support with storage and a monitor stand. More distinctive additions include green and black gaming thumbstick stools, which replicate the sticks of an Xbox controller at oversized scale. IKEA said these were developed using the controller's original 3D design files for maximum authenticity, and the stools tilt as users lean, echoing the thumbstick's motion to keep gamers comfortably engaged during intense sessions.

Other notable items include a green D-pad cushion and a D-pad platter themed after the concave metal D-pad found on Xbox Elite controllers. The range is currently on display at Xbox's booth at Gamescom, ahead of its wider launch in the coming months.

Carl Ledbetter, Xbox Head of Design, said in a press release that the company thinks extensively about what helps players feel immersed in a game. He noted that hardware is an important part of that experience, but so is the world created around it. Working with IKEA gave Xbox the opportunity to design for the entire gaming experience at home, from the screen to the space around it, he added.

IKEA said the YXSTABY name reflects an era where gaming furniture is moving out of teen bedrooms and man caves and into the mainstream living room. The collaboration marks a significant step for both brands as they target the growing adult gaming market in the UK and beyond.
